The JAS-39 was introduced in 1997 and is in use by Sweden and several other countries. The Gripen is one of the most advanced fighters to be developed solely in Europe. It matches up well against the Rafale, the Eurofighter Typhoon and American F-16s and F-18s. This quite elegant and extremely maneuverable aircraft is able to use a vast air-to-air missile arsenal as well as air-to-ground missiles in different roles: interceptor, attack fighter and navy interceptor.
