Simply setting out physical obstacles in the path of lumbering tanks could be a valuable and intelligent strategy. The heavy, slow-moving vehicles would have no choice but to alter their course, which could give the defenders much-needed time to reconfigure positions and a few precious moments where they weren’t under direct fire. Multiple rows were set just so that tanks couldn’t get around them, and often landmines, barbed wire or other obstacles would be positioned in between the larger steel or concrete obstacles.
