How to Use AK Interactive's True Metal Wax

Today we’ll show you AK Interactive's line of True Metal Wax colors, particularly focusing on Aluminum (AKI455). What makes this product stand out is that it's not your typical paint; it's more like a paste that can be thinned and used as a paint or applied directly to highlight metal details. You can even paint a metal object and buff it for a shinier finish. We will be able to see how to weather the tracks of a tank or any metal object using this True Metal color straight from the tube.

Be sure to have some white spirit (AKI47) ready, as it's handy for thinning this product. To begin, squeeze a bit of the True Metal paste onto a surface, resembling toothpaste or oil paint. Mix it a bit with a popsicle stick to ensure any residual medium blends back into the pigment, creating a smooth consistency.

Next, using a square chisel-type paintbrush, have a paper towel handy to wipe off excess while you work. Taking a small amount of the True Metal on the brush, drag it across the paper towel until almost no paint remains on the brush. This technique, known as dry brushing, allows you to gauge the amount of paint on the brush by observing the detail it leaves on the paper towel.

Approaching the tank's tracks, where there are ridges and rivets, gently brush the tracks with the nearly dry brush. The minimal paint on the brush will catch the highlights along the ridges and subtly emphasize the details. A careful motion in the opposite direction can highlight the small rivets that hold the track links together.

It's crucial to maintain control and a light touch to ensure the paint catches only the top edges of the details. If you happen to apply too much, you can easily smooth it out using a bit of the white spirit. By using this True Metal color, the dry brushing technique allows for precise highlighting of metal features, whether on tank tracks, guns, or any metal components on a vehicle.

This versatile product enables detailed highlighting on various metallic surfaces, making it a go-to choice for adding realistic touches to models and other metal objects.
