The passenger car Type 320 (W142) was in the middle of Daimler-Benz’s pre-war model range. From 1937 to 1942 a little over 4000 were produced. In the early days of the war most Type 320 (W142) cars were requisitioned and used as personal transport for senior officers and generals of the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe. They were used in both the Western and Eastern fronts up to the end of WWII. Type 320 (W142) cars were produced in different types, some with closed 4-door saloon bodies.
