The battleship IJN Mikasa was completed at the shipyards of Vickers, Sons and Maxim on March 1, 1902. Armed with four 30.5cm main guns, fourteen 15.2cm and sixteen 7.6cm secondary battery guns, twelve 4.7cm rapid fire guns and four underwater 45.7cm torpedo tubes, and protected with Krupp steel armored plating, the Mikasa was easily the most formidable ‘Dreadnought’ of its day. Admiral of the Imperial Combined Fleet Heihachiro Togo made it his flagship in December 1903 and directed the most important naval campaigns of the Russo-Japanese War from its bridge.
