Heavy cruiser Blücher is a German Navy Admiral Hipper class heavy cruiser launched on June 8, 1937 in Deutsche Werft. After completing only six months of field and combat exercises, Blucher was pronounced ready to serve and immediately sent to aid in the invasion of Norway. She led a flotilla of German ships to capture Oslo, Norway’s capital. Though the operation was ultimately successful, Blucher was sunk in Drobak Sound by Norwegian close-range fire and lost an unknown number of men. For the next fifty years she laid at the bottom of the Sound, leaking oil at a daily increasing rate, until the Norwegian government noticed its effect on the environment and went down to remove as much oil as possible. While one Arado Ar196 aircraft was recovered at this time, the remainder of the wreck is left as a historic landmark as well as an undisturbed memorial to those whose final resting place is among the remains.

Trumpeter often recommends using Tamiya X and XF paints – click here to purchase!
