The General Dynamics F-16N was specially developed by the USN for use as an adversary aircraft in fighter pilot training. It is a modified Air Force F-16 block 30 airframe whose radar has been replaced and fixed armament removed to provide a lighter and simpler configuration. Improvements have been made in the aircraft’s equipment and performance characteristics in order to allow it to be able to simulate new generation fighters, and it is currently being utilized at the Naval Fighter Weapons School ‘Top Gun’ to train and produce the best fighter pilots in the world.
