The Nakajima Saiun was designed in 1942 as a long-range reconnaissance aircraft. The Saiun (US code named “Myrt”) was first used in combat in 1943 and served Imperial Japanese forces throughout the Pacific. The Saiun was adapted for use as an interceptor and night fighter in the closing stages of WW2 and had the distinction of being the last Japanese aircraft shot down in that conflict.
