The Boeing Company first started its work on jet bombers at the end of 1943. The first trial model, XB-47, was ordered in April 1946 and completed eighteen months later. The latest technique included a design that suspended the engines on the slim, long main wings. The B-47E, took its first flight in 1953, using a J47-GE-25 engine with a thrust of 2700kgs, and the rear armament included two of GE’s radar-controlled 20mm twin guns.
