During the reign of Henry VIII through to Elizabeth I the Tudor Knight was the first line of defence for the realm. He was born into the nobility and was trained from a young age in the art of war and chivalry. He was the last true knight in a long tradition of knighthood that stretched back to the 11th century. He would begin his career on the tournament field, jousting against his fellow knights to win the admiration of the monarch and the court. He would also be skilled in the arts and languages, as knight was not only a fighter but was also a gentleman. His service would see action on battlefields in France at the battle of the Spurs, 1513, and Scotland, battle of Flodden, 1511. The knighthood during the Tudor period saw many reforms in all areas: recruitment, appearance, and most radically in training and equipment. In this title we follow the knight through from his first jousts on the tournament field to his real experience of battle.
